Sundays are picking up!
Sunday is a funny sort of day. Some people go to church or synagogue, or mosque or temple or....or...??? And then, what to do afterwards? I was always frustrated at about 2pm when I became a little stir crazy and I had no where to go. I did not want to go to the mall but needed something more genuine, more original to pass a couple of hours until dinner. A few people today had the right idea and came to MADE shop to feast their eyes on the opposite of banal. I'm glad we gave them something to talk about over dinner.....

Pretty Things CAN be Cool!
We have known Elise Moran for many many years and she makes the coolest pretty jewelry I know. I like more abstract designs but when it come to her jewelry I throw it on and wonder why I don't wear flowers & birds in my ears more often! We have a great selection of her work and you can view it soon on one of our pages.

We just finished installing our NEW window.
Hello all -
Just wanted to let you know – those of you who do not already –
We just finished installing our NEW window.
Over 250 block of wood each first cut to size, sanded, painted twice,
add an eye hook, and a piece of fishing line and finally attach to ceiling with push pin.
Estimated 1500 individual operations to complete.
So............ Come on down and shake our hands, softly, because my thumb hurts.
You can also see lots of new jewelry from Connie Verrusio and EAM design.

New Window Today - Yeah!
Today we will be finished installing our brand spanking new window display. It's going to be a show stopper - just hope it doesn't cause any fender benders as people drive by. Will post pictures for you all to enjoy later,

The MADE shop will be open and ready to greet you on this snowy Thursday. So, put on your mukluks and sunglasses and make this day more interesting than you could have imagined. We are excited about the new shipment of jewelry from Elise Moran and our wood-fired pottery from our favorite artists in North Carolina Shawn Ireland and Bandana Pottery.
We may do tricks.........

OK, This is Crazy Snow!
Diggin' Time!
So, the snow is coming down like crazy and Dave is at the shop as I write trying to get a head start on the shoveling. Will the shop be open today?? Not likely.
Today is an exciting day however as we are going to be making our new window display. Hopefully it will be installed in the next day or so. Will check in with more thoughts & updates later. In the meantime enjoy the shots of our snowy shop front!

SNOW......AGAIN??
So, it's going to snow again in Kutztown, PA, USA tomorrow. Actually, it is snowing as I write to all of you out in cyberspace. I was really looking forward to opening the store and hanging out with some good music and greeting people who were desperate to find that special something for their Valentine! I was looking forward to showing them the Rock Creek Pottery above.....and this....
Wall Piece - "Brushes" ($425) by David Jones (co-owner of MADE shop)......or this
another cool wall piece - "Wind" by David Jones ($275) or this....
Hand Made Japanese card ($10.95)
Tomorrow I will wake up and this little town will be covered with snow and our little shop will dig itself out and try to open it's doors for a few hours. Here's to making good things.

Jewelry good enough to eat!
This looks like the window of a sumptuous candy store and while sitting at the counter in MADE shop I have more than once wished that danielle gori-montanelli's amazing pins were liquorice instead of felt! As we approach St Valentine's Day I was thinking how pleased I would be to get candy that I could wear forever. The flower pins would also be a sweet love token. They are available at our store for a mere $45 & $55

Paul Sumner
We have known Paul almost since the beginning of our "making thing". Very much like me, he is a tinkerer, a finder, a cobbler of things. If we lived closer we would probably car pool to the flea market. So when we opened MADE shop - we gave him a call and he obliged us with a flock of birds, some snakes and also a small heard of magnets. I have some tins in mind for him I just keep forgetting to take pictures and send them to him.
Well here are some of his wares - available at
MADE shop.

Look What We Can Do With Tagua Nut!
Tagua nut is a palm nut found in Venezuela. We discovered it a few years ago in a mineral shop in Spruce Pine, NC. It has a brown skin and is super hard. We decided to cut one open. Inside was a super hard white material. Of course it was a perfect substitute for ivory and inevitably we combined it with metal and made jewelry! We are not the first to have that bright idea but I think our work adds a new twist by treated it more like a piece of metal or a gem.It can be drilled, burned (gives off a lovely caramel toffee smell), riveted, filed and sawed. If you love how it looks - leave a comment!

St Valentine's Day Observations & Ideas
Valentine's Day is approaching and so I asked myself a question: do I really feel compelled to give, and receive something from my husband just because it is deemed a romantic holiday, not to mention the gross commercialism of the whole thing??? One part of me rejects the whole notion of a day where people give each other gifts of love because they are supposed to, or they feel it will right all the wrongs between them. However, the other part of me says yes, while St Valentine's day could be considered cliche and commercial, it still remains the day that you can declare your love and offer a token of that love to your special person. It may even give a person the courage to tell someone how they feel about them for the very first time or the day that you get an anonymous card in the mail (or slipped under your door), full of undying passionate words of how they feel about you.
So here's to Pope Galasius 1 who in 496AD declared that February 14th would be traditionally the day on which lovers express their love for each other!
And with that, here are some ideas of gifts to think about,

Shawn Ireland wood-fired candlestick
