New arrivals - etc.

Hello!

We have recently sold most of the Japanese Stencil Printed calendar sheets by Takeshi Nishijima but have loose sheets left and two complete calendars.
(back to their motherland of JAPAN)

Of the remaining calendars one is 1971 and the other, I believe, without having it sitting in front of me is 1975. They are without folders and the 1971 has tape marks on reverse. Also just got some great PURSES that are 100% recycled/re-purposed fabric.

The Earth Purse
(two sizes LARGE AND SMALL)
is reversible and uses recycled fabrics from curtains, suits,
pants, dresses or whatever fabric item deemed worthy.
Look for pictures soon - SAY tomorrow.

Stay warm and for a change of pace visit the MADE shop.

Kimiko Shiga Cards - Just Arrived!

Today fresh from JAPAN - these wonderful handmade cards by Kimiko Shiga. Super cool 21st century Mingei - Is that possible? Anyhow we have 27 of various designs on handmade Japanese paper in nice neat little envelopes. These cards are more like ART and I would recommend not writing in them - write on a loose sheet and insert in card - Then you can frame the card - they will stand the test of time. They are small around 3 x 4 ".

Art Smith at MADE shop

Dave has an eye for beautiful things, and a knack for finding them! This Art Smith copper Bracelet/Cuff is no exception. Art Smith (for those who do not know) was born in Cuba of Jamaican parents. He grew up in Brooklyn and studied jewelry under Winifred Mason. He opened his own jewelry studio in The Village in NYC in the 1940's. His work was featured in Vogue, Harpers, and the New Yorker. He died in 1982.
Art Smith said "A piece of jewelry is in a sense an object that is not complete in itself. Jewelry is a "what is it?" until you relate it to the body. The body is a component in design just as air and space are. It is one of the basic inspirations in creating form"

For a year or so the bracelet has sat in our house amid the myriad of objects that we have the pleasure of looking at everyday. It is now part of the MADE shop. So.....if you would like to own a piece of Art Smith studio jewelry and you have $1,750, it can be yours! Think Valentine's present.....
Cheers,
Tess

KEISUKE SERIZAWA is too COOL!

Arrived today - Keisuke Serizawa - Fans and soon at least 8 Calendars from the 70's. Keisuke Serizawa (1895-1984) was a Japanese textile designer. In 1956, he was designated as a Living National Treasure for his katazome stencil dyeing technique by the Japanese government. Serizawa visited Okinawa several times and learned the Ryukyu bingata techniques of dyeing. Serizawa was also a leading member of the mingei movement founded by Yanagi Soetsu. His folk art includes kimono, paper prints, wall scrolls, folding screens, curtains, fans and calendars. Serizawa has also produced numerous masterpieces in illustrated books.
